The Missoula Exchange Club sponsored its annual “Youth of the Year” Awards Ceremony March 1, 2012 and four participants were honored. This years nominees were Rachel Knapp of Hellgate High School who could not attend because she was working on a service project in Panama. Alyssa Bashor of Big Sky High School read her essay on how much she learned from her experiences on the debate team. She said.” Sometimes you learn more by not winning a competition because you feel you have performed your best.” Megan Herring from Sentinel High School read her essay of her experience during a Caribbean sailing expedition combining her interest in ecology and environmental studies. She is the number one student out of 314 seniors at Sentinel High School this year. Tawnie Kerr, over-all winner of this years “Youth of the Year” Ceremony wrote her essay on her experience as Chair of the St. Patrick Youth Board of Directors. She now better understands what boards attempt to do and how they function. Tawnie has been selected as one of the top five indi- viduals for high academic standards while being involved in many other school activities state wide. All participants were awarded $250.00 toward their college goals. The winner Tawnie Kerr was awarded $500.00 and her name will be submitted to the Exchange Yellowstone District Selection Committee this week for further competition. The Missoula Exchange Club is honored to recognize each of our 2012 candidates and wishes them a heartfelt “Thank you” for their individuals efforts and hard work.
