How we help prevent child abuse locally

Monday, February 21st, 2011

The Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect is our national and local project. Locally, we sponsor The Parenting Place (a 27 year old non-profit organization) with the sole purpose of Strengthening Families by early intervention, parenting classes and one-on-one counseling. The Parenting Place includes our Exchange Club Parent Aide Center. One of the successes of the Parenting Place over the last 6 years is offering Parent Education and Support for residences at the Missoula Pre-Release Center and Inmates at the Missoula County Jail. People that go through the classes have a recidivism rate of only 14% verses state-wide recidivism of  over 46%.

Donate old appliances, furniture, exercise equipment and more!

Sunday, January 23rd, 2011

For three years we have held a garage sale in April. Two years ago a member suggested selling some of the larger items on Craigslist. For the past two years we have accepted donations of appliances, furniture, exercise equipment and other things (even cars, boats, motorcycles). We cleaned, fixed and sold them on craigslist and eBay with good results. We received more money for items, had income 12 months a year and a new source of funding for our programs. And, the garage sale by itself doubled in revenue last year. This was a direct result of being able to collect items year round and save them for the garage sale, this increased our inventory and revenue.

This past December we contracted with Mark Rathbun to take over the collection and sales of larger items project. He started his business, Donation Warehouse and specializes in recycling and selling used appliances, furniture and much more for our child abuse prevention fund.

Over the past year, Donation Warehouse’s fundraising has earned us approximately $25,000. This funding went directly to help support our Child Abuse Prevention program.

Donation Warehouse is located at  1804 North Ave West. Their phone number is 406-240-4042 . Please call or visit their website at www.donationwarehouse.net

Your donations will help to make our community a better place to live.
